Stuart High School Murray Cod and Barramundi Enterprises offer a unique opportunity for visitors to see a fully operational inland Freshwater Aquaculture venture in an educational setting. As part of the Eyre Peninsula Seafood and Aquaculture Trial visitors will see the various growth stages of the Murray Cod and Barramundi and learn how technology is used to sustain the fish. Get ready to be splashed and watch the frenzy that occurs when these hungry fish get fed. Other native species such as Yabbies are bred on site, along with goldfish, yellow cichlids and colourful guppies.
The Aquaculture Centre also demonstrates how we minimise our dependence on mains water and how the water is recycled and put to use growing native plants and vegetables. The centre is also developing closer links with the local Aquaculture industry Clean Seas, and the associated developments will become apparent throughout 2009 and onwards.
The schools renowned smoked kingfish may be available for tasting and purchase, depending on demand at any given time.
