Treasures, artefacts and memorabilia of the ship building era of Whyalla including a wartime corvette the former HMAS Whyalla to tour.
The Whyalla Maritime Museum is home to the first ship to be built in the Whyalla Shipyards in 1941 which now stands high and dry, 2km from the sea and 2m off the ground and yes you can climb aboard to explore and learn about life on the sea on a guided tour.
The Whyalla Maritime Museum galleries reflect Whyalla’s shipbuilding era documenting the story of the four wartime corvettes built in Whyalla.
Museum open daily: 10am – 4pm, the Whyalla Maritime Museum is only closed Good Friday and Christmas Day. Enjoy a tour of the WWII Bathurst Class Corvette, the HMAS Whyalla, with guided ship tours daily at 10.30am, 11.30am and 1.30pm. Closed-in footwear required.
