EDUCATIONAL, ADVENTUROUS AND FUN.

Whyalla offers learning and experiences for children to learn of industry, ecology and environmental diversity while having adventure exploring outback and coastal environments. Leisure activities abound to have some organised fun and also down time.

A sample of key activities:
Tour the ship HMAS Whyalla An exhibit of the Whyalla Maritime Museum.
Open daily: 10am – 4pm, the Whyalla Maritime Museum is only closed Good Friday and Christmas Day. Admission includes guided ship tours of the HMAS Whyalla daily at 11.30am and 1.30pm or for school groups by arrangement. (Closed in footware must be worn).The Whyalla Maritime Museum complex offers picnic and seating areas for class work and breaks.

Tour the Whyalla Steelworks Tours of the steel works site for schools are available by arrangement. Please contact the Whyalla Visitor Information Centre for more information or to book.

Tour the Iron Knob Open Cut MineGuided mine tours depart from the Iron Knob Tourist Centre. There are views of the original Iron Knob pit and from which work at the Iron Princess and Monarch pits may be seen. Enclosed footwear is compulsory. Tours depart Monday to Friday between 9.00am to 12.30pm and 1.15pm – 2.30pm weather and mining activities permitting.

Tour the Mount Laura Homestead Museum Explore and learn of the yesteryear of Whyalla. Learn of the development of telecommunications at the Telecommunication Museum; see early machinery and how people used to live. Open weekdays 10am - 3pm, Sunday 2pm - 4pm. Closed Saturday. Whyalla Museums have a lot of varying displays and exhibits for student learning. 

Snorkeling and Diving Experience the worlds largest aggregation of Giant Cuttlefish unique to Whyalla May to August. Easily accessible from the shore at Stony Point. Hire equipment and suits are available locally for school groups.
